aloha to aloft Philadelphia!

Last week we had another great opening celebration for aloft hotels. aloft Philadelphia opened in true-aloft-form with a happening party and sick fashion show. The whole event was queued up by the phat beats of DJ. Jazzy Jeff (yes- the Fresh Prince one!) and the fashion show featured the latest from Project Runway star Christian Siriano. Models and hot people were everywhere! They had models working out in the gym, in the backyard, and dancing in re: mix. It was really a great opening and set an amazing tone for this hotel.

We are excited to announce the recent partnership of aloft hotels and Jet Blue airlines. aloft ambassadors... such as myself have hit the airways. We have been taking flights back and forth between JFK airport in New York and Ontario Airport- near the aloft Rancho Cucamonga, CA.

We have been hosting in-flight promotions and spreading the buzz about our new hotels. Jetters have received special gifts and coupons for out newly opened hotel which is only a few minutes from the Ontario Airport.

As we continue to open hotels it is so exciting to see the corporate relationships evolve. We have many more exciting projects up our sleeves and I can't wait to share what's next.

Aloha you aloft a go-go loyalists! It has been a busy few months since my last posting on here. I am happy to announce aloft hotels are now open for business.

We established ourselves as an international brand from day one with our first hotel opening in Montreal. We also have hotels open in Rogers Arkansas, Lexington Massachusetts, and Rancho Cucamonga California. We will continue to open new hotels and I am certain there will be one near you soon. If you haven't already, be sure to check out the 'view all aloft hotels' link on alofthotels.com.

For the months to come I will use this site as a place to keep you updated on everything aloft. We are no longer using the aloft a go-go mobile display as we are excited to now focus our attention on our open hotels. I will let you know about new hotel announcements, opening parties, special events, partnerships, and anything else I find exciting while living life aloft.

Captains Blog- Omaha, more than great steaks.

This week I had the opportunity to visit one of the Global Sales Offices for Starwood. The office is located in Omaha, Nebraska. February might not have been my first choice of months to visit Nebraska though, I was glad to be there. The Global Sales Office is where arrangements can be made for groups who frequently travel with Starwood. The team was excited about aloft and happy to see the go-go.

Driving around North America for a year I have spent a lot of time in the car. I spend about 6- 10 hours a day driving and that amount of sun exposure take its toll on my eyes. Because of this I always try to wear my sunglasses. There are days when it is really snowy and bright. I have always struggled on these days taking my glasses on and off all day. I think I have found a solution. I got a lot of strange looks from passersby but I've become comfortable with that by now.

Today's Roadside America was really a difficult one to pick. I spent the day driving across Utah and Colorado from West to East. When making this trek it is almost impossible to not get caught up in the beauty and majesty of this amazing area. As you begin in Utah the terrain is dry and rugged. They have had more snow than usual this year and the red rocks and white snow create a breathtaking contrast.

Into Colorado the road gets steep and curvy. These switchbacks provide the perfect overlooks for the traveler brave enough to take a peek. The road summits at the top of Vail Pass near the Continental Divide. Once you reach that peak it's down hill to Nebraska.

This drive was full of extremes from the flat deserts of Utah to the lush alpine territories of Colorado. I planned on stopping once to take the picture; instead I filled my memory card.

I will be periodically posting pictures in a new series I will call 'American Roadside.' This will serve as an opportunity for me to better share my journey with you. I will post images of landscapes, quirky signs, interesting people, or even of famous landmarks. If I capture any good images they might even end up on the 'local art wall' we will have at each property. There will be no specific theme to the series other than that they will all be images from along my trip. They say a picture is worth a thousand words... so here we go.
